I have no idea how old these apple trees are, but they have grown into odd shapes in the process of yearly pruning.

Sometimes pruning isn’t enough and drastic measures are needed to prevent serious damage. A freak snowstorm early in the fall when leaves were still on the branches overpowered this tree and split it all the way to the ground, but it isn’t giving up. There are apples here, but not many. It looks as though the trees are working hard just feeding the new growth.
