Like most things, there is more than one answer. At one time the only way was the hard way. You took a risk and climbed, using hands and feet and muscle. The lucky and able made it. In time, someone realized it might be a good idea to make it easier for more people. Still, you had to be able to climb, but there was a lot less risk. Eventually a road was built up the back side. It was longer, but it meant that anyone could enjoy the view from the top. But of all the ways to the top the easiest was to be born there. It’s still that way.
