This tree grows right across the street from where I work. I had been watching it work itself into an unusually glorious display this fall and finally had to photograph it this morning. The sun had just gotten up enough to illuminate the whole tree with golden light making the reds and golds really pop. I used the 15mm lens on my Pentax K5IIs which is the equivalent of about 22mm in full frame 35 speak.
When I opened the file on my iPad I was remided how shrinking the items in life to the much smaller screen can concentrate the colors. It’s about being able to take in the entire tree, in this case, without moving the eye. At any rate, I thought no one would believe the color in the unmanipulated image. The deep blue sky certainly hightened the red in contrast. In the end, I actually reduced the color saturation in this version, and it still seems unbelievable but it’s true.
