Which way now?

As I walked back to my car from dropping off some prints for matting at Hull’s, I happened to look up at the building across Church Street and saw this composition. I stopped for a moment and tried to make sense of my reaction to the elements. What could the sign and the stop lights showing red in both directions mean? At the time I was at a loss, but I went ahead and made a couple of exposures, trusting my insticts that there was a message here. Is this something you do as well?

As I drove home I kept thinking about it, and by the time I got there I felt like I had it. We as a society are on the edge of a new day, or a new age, but no matter which way we turn, the signs say no, we can’t go that way. There seems to be no path we can choose that will get us out of the messes in which we now find ourselves. Our leaders have no clear answers and politicians are at an impasse, left or right makes no difference, and we are left stuck like traffic waiting for the light to change.
