Feels just like home

Woodbury, like a lot of New England towns, has a bandstand right on Main Street. There is a small green here, and we really do have concerts on summer evenings. That’s hard to remember when there is a foot and a half of snow on the ground and it’s snowing with no let up in sight.

If you look closely, you can make out the sign on the building in the background. Canfield Corner Pharmacy has been family owned since well before I moved to town and has been my pharmacy for about twenty-five years. They take care that my medications are compatible, and on those occasions that I can’t get there before they close, they leave them outside for me to pick up; not something one of the big chain stores would do. It’s the kind of thing I’ve come to depend on.

It has been interesting to become so dependent on a place. When we moved here twenty-five years ago we had no long term plans, but every year we became more attached.  We liked the feel of the place, but I don’t think it was on our minds that we would stay. Now, I find it hard to think about leaving the places I am so used to and the people I have come to know. In a few short weeks the snow will be melted, and the bands will be back. The seasons change and life goes on. What more could I ask for?
