Tools of the Trade

I took a trip to potter Brinton Baker’s studio to pick up some dinnerware we had ordered and needed the restroom as soon as I arrived. It was the first chance I’d had to see behind the “Wizard’s” curtain. Since the first time I saw Brinton’s work I was a fan of his glaze work. This is his clean-up room. It just goes to show that it isn’t always high tech tools that produce the goods.

Brinton’s work can be seen at Stone Window Studio in Accord, New York. It is one of several wonderful studios listed on the Hudson Valley Pottery Trail, a fun way to spend the day seeing some of the small towns along the western side of the mid-Hudson River.
